Where Is God's Treasure?
By
Travis K. McSherley
Pearls, diamonds, money,
"things," we all have our so-called "treasures." God has no need
for material goods, though, so what does He value?
We have "equal rights" groups
today trying to unite genders, races, and sexual "preferences." While
these groups may be either good or bad, we also now have groups that attempt
to unite
species. They parade the idea that humans and animals
are all the same fluke of nature, and that we should all live together.
We shouldn't kill animals for food or clothing, they say, because it would
be the same as killing your brother or your friend. But if we are
on the same level as animals, what happens to the hope of salvation or
the promise of better things to come?
As Christians, we do not
have to lose hope. We do not have to worry for an instant about our
status in nature or our security in God's hands. Jesus realized that
these fears occur, though. But as usual, He confronted them and offered
comfort in His simple and powerful way. "Are not five sparrows sold
for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God? But
even the very hairs of your head are all numbered." Christ said in Luke
12:6-7.
God keeps track of ALL things
in the universe. Nothing gets by His sight; nothing takes Him by
surprise. So what? How does this give me hope and comfort?
Jesus continued, "Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows."
What more explanation could
we need? If God is going to keep track of all the birds and animals
that He made, He says, of course He is going to pay attention to us!
We are made in His very image after all. Later in the same chapter,
Jesus adds, "Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which
neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are
ye better than the fowls?" (v. 24).
Not only does our God keep
track of our every movement, but He also provides for our every need!
God provides grants provisions to birds and animals, and He is willing
to provide so much more for we who are so much "better than the fowls."
All we have to do is believe in Him.
God made many wonderful things.
Just take a look around. Watch a sunset. Pick up a diamond.
Drive through the mountains. So many beautiful sights can be seen
on this earth of God's. But when He looks down, He sees His most
beautiful treasure as His own children, you and me. Imperfect you
and me. In fact, He treasured us so much that with the blood of Jesus
Christ, He paid for us to be with Him forever. |

Seek ye the kingdom
of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. Fear not, little
flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:31-2
