September 11: On Our
Soil
By
Travis K. McSherley
When you wake up in the morning,
you never expect that today could radically change your life.
However, the entire world discovered that Tuesday, September 11, 2001,
was one of those days that will be forever engraved in our minds. My radio
alarm clock told me the news: "It's been confirmed, a plane has hit the
World Trade Center."
Well, that's the kind of
news that will jolt one awake. I checked the Net to find photos of
this report. Then, as you know, the day became more and more crazy
as it progressed.
I remember watching television
during the Gulf War, after the Oklahoma City bombing, and after Columbine's
shootings. But none of that could prepare me for the intense emotion
that I would go through on Sept. 11. Watching the video of all the
day's events, I was sorrowful, angry, frustrated, and even a little frightened.
However, I could also feel
a sense of peace and amazement of it all, knowing that God's hand is surely
working. The devil may get in his punches, but the Lord claims vengeance.
How unbelievable it is, that
these sickening acts are surely related to United States involvement with
Israel. Some Palestinians even cheered in the streets as they heard
the news of the attacks on the U.S.
We all have a lot of questions
right now. Who did it? Why?
The answers are obviously
unclear at this point, and may be for some time. But what is clear
is that God is still in control. Our country will be strong, but
our most powerful weapon is always prayer.
These are the final days
of the planet. The world is falling apart, and fast. As I stated
in my last YoL, the U.S. is about the last fragment of stability left in
the world. We will stay strong - we must stay strong.
Today was a day filled with
terror and tragedy. It's a day that you will never forget.
But it's a day you can give to God, and remember Romans 8:28. Pray
for the families of those who were so cheated out of the rest of their
lives. Pray for our country. Pray for our president.
Pray for our unstable, unbelieving world.
Put your faith in the Creator
of the Universe. These are unusual times, and today's horrific scenes
testify to that. But just as the years before and the years to come,
this
is the year of our Lord. |

The Spirit of
the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath appointed me...To proclaim
the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to
comfort all that mourn.
Isaiah 61:1a,2
