Not Marching for
Me

Washington was filled to
capacity with feminists and abortion supporters on April 25. While they
stated they were marching "for women's lives," their actions gave little
hope for any culture of life. I attended the march as a silent pro-life
protester and am still recovering from the experience.
The vulgarity I witnessed
was nothing short of the seventh layer of "Dante's Inferno."
Abortion-rights activists
taunted us with chants such as "Anti-choice, Anti-gay, Religious Right
Go Away" and "2, 4, 6, 8 Everybody Masturbate." Three men also simulated
sex acts within two feet of us, as we silently protested. A 20-something
girl repeatedly pulled up her skirt and pointed to her crotch. They also
called us "Born Again Bigots" and walked by with their middle finger flung
right in our faces.
As if this verbal vulgarity
wasn't enough, I feared for the children who were able to read the signs
carried by such radicals. Often accompanied by pictures of female genitalia,
signs read: "The Only Bush I Trust is My Own," "It's Time for the P----
to Reign," and "If Only Barbara Bush would have had a Choice."
According to NARAL -- formerly
the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League -- this is
pro-choice America.
Perhaps the most disturbing
thing about Sunday's freak show is that these radicals -- including celebrities
such as Cybil Shepherd, Susan Sarandon and Whoopi Goldberg -- claim to
speak for all women, especially young women, such as myself.
As a 22-year-old female of
prime child-bearing age, I am outraged that these women believe that plastering
signs with foul language and obscene pictures empowers me. It embarrasses
me. If their real goal was "My Body, My Choice" -- as so many of their
signs read -- they would get their body out of my face!
I will not be intimidated
by such hateful words and big-name celebrities. Cybil, you called me an
"anti-abortion hypocrite." Whoopi, you said I am "encouraging women to
kill themselves" because I oppose abortion. I am a woman and I do not need
abortion to keep me alive, healthy or happy.
What these women do not understand
-- or refuse to acknowledge -- is that I do not celebrate my femininity
by wild acts of exhibitionism. It is not "reproductive freedom" for me
to engage in one-night stands, with the calm assurance that an abortion
is always only a Planned Parenthood clinic away. How this could help me
be successful, short of starring in the latest "Girls Gone Wild" videos,
I do not know. Face it ladies, equality is not found in a sex act or an
abortion clinic.
Millions in my generation
join me in protecting the innocent lives of unborn children. According
to Newsweek, support for abortion has dropped over 10 percent among my
generation in the last decade. We've seen the destruction an abortion culture
creates. We see friends with broken hearts and suffering bodies. We will
no longer allow you to force your radical agenda on us.
NARAL, here's news for you:
I am pro-life America!
